I have a wonderful collection of songs on my computer. Music is very important to me, and I was glad to have the opportunity to search for hard to find tunes on my computer through Napster a few years ago. Since then, sites that offer free music are illegal and you can get into a lot of trouble for stealing songs online. Downloading music is very different today but you can still find many of your favorite artists through the Internet.

Music To Listen To

There are more and more ways to find great music to listen to today, and your options for how you listen to that music are growing. The Internet is full of great music, much of which is the same stuff you can find in your local music store. Before the Internet, you had to buy your music from a music store, and quite often, you had to buy the whole album. After a while, singles were released, but there was no guarantee that you could find the single you wanted.

Downloading Music

We have well over 1500 songs in our music library. This is in addition to tons of music stored in CD format. My husband has some decent stereo equipment and he regularly uses our music library, computer and stereo system to DJ private parties for friends and family. We are able to create playlists in ITunes and we can customize these lists according to the fashion and preferences of the host. We are always downloading music for one purpose or another and we have amassed quite a collection in all genres of music.

Nowadays instead of flipping channels, buying a blank VHS tape and recording your favorite movie video whenever it happens to plays on VH1, you can download music videos with just the click of a button. You can create your own compilation of your favorite artists by choosing to download music videos to your computer and then save them onto a single DVD disc. Gone are the days when you had to either buy a VHS tape or wait for an encore presentation on television. The Internet and file sharing have changed the music and entertainment industries forever. In most cases it takes mere seconds to download music videos and start enjoying them.

Music Choice

When it comes to music choices, there are sounds for everyone. From Rock to Rap, or Country to Pop, the wide range of tunes blasting from radios today is hard to keep up with. The radio and music store no longer rule the kingdom of lyrics and beats, these days our high-speed Internet connections put us in touch with any genre, style, or age of music we may be looking for.

Singing Competitions

Singing competitions are not a new thing, though one just tuning into those being televised might think so. When we—ahem—forty-somethings were kids, we participated in talent shows in school, had Fourth of July singing competitions, and even had slim opportunities to go to the small local broadcasting station to enter a small local talent search. I cannot find the historical (lol) data now, but I do remember entering by mail one of the annual singing competitions produced by a modest TV station in Boston, Mass.. I did it discretely, without my parents’ permission, though, so when I was notified of my acceptance as a contestant, I was not allowed to go. I got over that, though I never really got over wanting to sing for a living…although I did give up that bizarre notion of what fame is really all about.

We collect the song lyrics to our favorite songs as like we collect branded sandals like birkenstock sandals as my personal favorite. We quote specific lines of song lyrics.
